Bartolomé Bermejo,Spanish painter

Bartolomé Bermejo, the best Spanish painter of the fifteenth century.
Bartolomé de Cárdenas, alias el Bermejo. He was born in Córdoba ( Spain ) around 1440-45 and died around 1501, possibly in Barcelona .
Rebellious and untamed, he was Judeoconverse. On the origin of his nickname (it is written in many ways: Bermejo, Bermello, Vermeio, Rubeus ...) there are several theories. The most plausible is that the painter had reddish hair. His wife, Gracia de Palaciano, a rich widow, was condemned by the Aragonese Inquisition, accused of Judaizing practices.
The Historians say that Bartolomé was rebellious and untamed, he was a Jewish convert. On the origin of his nickname (it is written in many ways: Bermejo, Bermello, Vermeio, Rubeus ...) there are several theories. The most plausible is that the painter had reddish hair.
But, above all, its sophisticated chromatic range stands out: a superb palette of reds, greens, violets and golds. He was such a success that in some orders he was forced by contract to use those colors. His trick, apply lacquers and transparencies, which increased the sense of depth and brilliance of the color. The result, an impressive visual spectacle. According to the curator, the painting by Bermejo, who drinks from Flemish masters such as Van Eyck, Memling or Van der Weyden, "fascinates the spectator's eye with its technical resources and iconographic innovation. It is much more than a virtuoso pyrotechnics exercise. What makes his work fascinating and extraordinary is his ability to create a surprising personal artistic language, unique and inimitable, capable of transcending fashions and era's .
He had a complex relationship with his clients (nobles, ecclesiastics and rich merchants such as Lluís Desplà or Francesco della Chiesa) and partners. Bermejo was a nomadic artist who went through Daroca, Barcelona, Zaragoza, Valencia ... There was in these cities a guild system that forced outside artists to have partners. In the case of Bermejo they had much less quality than him: Juan de Bonilla, Martín Bernat or Rodrigo and Fracisco de Osona. There was a curious "excommunication clause" at the time in case the artists did not fulfill their contracts. Bermejo came to be excommunicated for painting only the central panel of the altarpiece of Santo Domingo de Silos. The Cathedral of Zaragoza came to install a lock to prevent access to the old cloister where Bermejo painted the doors of the main altarpiece of La Seo.
a star in the fifteenth century, Bermejo fell into oblivion a century later. His paintings have ended up in the sacristies and attics. Others were destroyed or lost. It was not recovered until the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to names such as the Valencian historian Elías Tormo, who made his first monograph in 1926; Judith Berg and Eric Young. As a funny epilogue, and to show the success Bartolomé Bermejo had in life, the exhibition exhibits copies and falsifications of his works. The II Marquis of Viana ordered several copies. He wanted to build a "Bermejo gallery" in his Cordovan palace. A "San Miguel" by Edmond Dyer is on display. Beside it, two fakes ("San Miguel" and "San Sebastián"), made in the first decades of the 20th century and donated in 1947 to the Petit Palais in Paris. The exhibition, which has the collaboration of the Community of Madrid and the support of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, will travel in 2019 to the MNAC in Barcelona and the National Gallery in London will gather three of its masterpieces .

Do you think that Bullfighting a big following ?

Hi guys, how are you doing?
I apologize because I've been busy for personal reasons. I have received many questions by emails in Spanish and English about   my country Spain and bullfights .
Well, well my friends ,the times and people change of mentality ( all countries happens this)  ,so  in Spain in the early seventies years of the last century were more than half of the citizens who declared themselves interested in bullfighting and by the end of that decade and during the 1980s accounted for less than 50% , now in 2018, 20 % of the Spaniards between 16y 65 years were in  favor of  bullfighting.
For the lovers of bullfighting is an art... Uff Omg..
For me and many Spaniards, it is a form of cruelty to animals in the name of culture, it is no excuse for the torture about any animal. Myself and the  majority Spaniards say that the torture of animals should not exist anywhere in the world, and less in a modern country like Spain.
This is my personal opinion . I am against bullfighting , and I am very proud that Barcelona prohibited bullfighting .The prestigious ranchers say "Spain would not be Spain without the bulls.  There is still a controversial debate about this. Bullfighters say that "It is the national holiday", and those who defend the animals and do not want bullfighting, we say it is a shame, is a torture and a crime, yes my friends, today the majority of Spanish include me ,we think it's a crime. I can't see that barbarity !!.

In my country the culture and the way of thinking changes depends where you live, in Barcelona (Northeast of Spain), the cultural level of the people who go to the Bullfighting  is uncultured, they are almost illiterate, marginal.. But be careful with this! This is not always the case, because in Seville ( South of Spain ) the high society and the culture are going to bullfights. There in Seville the bullfights moves a lot of money, in Barcelona...nope!

I have realized a question to my followers of my country, the hobby of the bulls, being greater in Castilla y León (33.3%), Valencian Community (31.3%), Andalusia  Ceuta and Melilla (29.1%) ,  Madrid and Castilla la Mancha (25.4%) in other regions such as Galicia (3.4%) and Catalonia (7.9%).
So what do you think about it?
Next time I'm going to make a video of this on my YouTube channel in Spanish link :

Tips to take care of yourself. Crochet & knit

Hi/Hola embartisanknitters.

Today I will give you some tips to take care of your health while you do crochet or knit.  You know that I teach Spanish, and of course I give some classes of crochet and knit, and also the tutorials for my YouTube channel,  if you want check out and subscribe this is ny link  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeJPmF3tGmK6YD-gDVsEAvg
After the first week of that you can imagine that my wrists, arms and back began to hurt! However, I was able to relieve these ailments by changing just a few simple things.  Below are my tips and tricks to help you get through deadlines and crochet/knit overloads.
Never crochet for even a solid hour without stopping for a minute to contract your fingers back and forth like you are grabbing something. Ideally, this should be done every 20 to 40 minutes.
*Stress balls are a great way to build up endurance.
*Take a walk around the room every hour or so to keep your body from getting stiff. This may seem like a waste of time when you are on a deadline but it helps your body in the long run.
*Don’t try to be a superhero, you can’t go from crocheting/knitting an hour at a time to a marathon. You need to gradually work up to longer and longer times. Your wrists have muscles and they need time to build up and get stronger.
*This may not work for everyone but try switching your dominate hand, after minimal practice I was able to crochet with my left or right hand. I am way faster using my right hand however when I am in a pinch it is nice to give my main hand a break and keep going with my other one!
*Examine the way you are sitting. Is your back supported? Is your arm supported? Are you leaning forward and putting strain on your neck? Many people find using a pillow under there dominate hand more comfortable.
*All hooks are not created equal! Some hooks give you less strain than others. Everyone is different, try a different hook and see if that helps! For me I prefer Soft Touch or Amour hooks by Clover. Some of my students and friends prefer Boyle hooks with clay handles. This is depending on how you are most comfortable. Good friends This is a little tips to take care of your writs, back and neck. Ah One more thing, yes you understand Spanish or want to improvise your Spanish and you want to know about Ireland, Spain, or current affairs. I leave the link of my other channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCULCd8H2c_dJKeVwJjZjNKw

Fake Spanish Stereotypes 1

Hi/Hola embartisanknitters ,how are you doing today?
I know this blog is about crochet & knitting, but  the people ask me by my email : embartisanknitting@yahoo.com. Lately there are many people who ask me about my country, Spain, there are people who know my country very well, and others visit my country just for parties and to drink and in reality that group of people have no idea about Spain, and are guided only they are guided by stereotypes. There are other Spanish people who want to know about Ireland, that's the reason I have my other channel on YouTube 'Vlog of a Spanish in Ireland', here is the link if you want check
out but I just I speaking in Spanish link : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCULCd8H2c_dJKeVwJjZjNKw
If you want to improve your Spanish you can watch my channel subscribe, comment ( always with respect please, there I explained what I like or dislike about Ireland, the lovely and delicious Irish food, current affairs,etc.., but if you don't understand my language...no problem I write it in my blog.
So, my friends I changed a little bit my chip , and every day I will write about stereotypical Spanish customs where they are true or false.
Ok,so I want to talk today about ' La siesta' Naps in English.
Everyone knows the Spanish siesta, foreigners think that Spain is paralyzed at that time. Nothing could be further from the truth. The stereotype of the Spanish nap has been banished, yes ,my friends only 16% of Spaniards practice this habit every day, very healthy and recommended otherwise. This has been revealed by a study on sleep, carried out among more than 3,000 Spaniards over 18 years of age. So just 16% of Spanish take 'la siesta' !!.
This analysis reveals that 58.6% of Spaniards never sleep ' La siesta ' (for example, in general I have not napped, I only did it when I worked at night in the Hospital so yes I did, but in normal situations, I I have never done nap), there is a 22% of Spaniards who only occasionally and 3.2% go numb after lunch only on weekends. Most of those few who enjoy a slight sleep after eating - 72% - are satisfied with lying on the couch.
I was very pleased, that an analysis on the nap was that a third of adults in the United States, 34% of Americans nap according to a survey by the Pew Research Center. That is much more than the Spaniards, who according to the whole world criticizes that Spain is the country of the siesta. LOL

The Germans, who are also critical of our custom, can not raise their voices because in a study by the scientific journal "Neurology" it was revealed that the Europeans who nap most are not Spaniards, not Portuguese, but yes  Germans People. Even the English are more sleep after eating than the Spaniards. According to this analysis about ' La siesta ' nap in English,  so the 22% of Germans say that they nap at least three times a week. There they stand as undisputed leaders, well above the Italians, second with 16%, and the British, in third place with 15% affirmative answers. Spain and Portugal are relegated to fourth and fifth place.

Officially, the siesta was eliminated from Spanish customs in 2012.
There was once, when I went English classes to improvise my English, there were people of different nationalities, in that class there was a girl from Barcelona just like me. The English teacher asked why some Spanish stores closed at noon, is it because of the siesta? he asked and he looked at me. I replied to him, that in Madrid, Barcelona or other big cities of Spain, now in these days not all stores close at noon, yes there are some small shops that close two hours, but those two hours they close those little shops to make lunch, they eat and then they go back to their little shops, but big supermarkets or shopping center never they close at noon. Never!! I lived in Barcelona all my life so I know it very well. But ...this girl apparently who she said that she is from my city Barcelona ,she said that I am a liar, because her mum had a little shop and her mum sleep La siesta these two hours..Then I learned the truth about that girl ( I have family and friends police ), she is not from Barcelona city, she is from a small town in the province of Barcelona, and we all know that the villages life are very different from the cities. This is international, and everyone knows this. LOL
Finally dear friends, this is the first false stereotype of my country, I will write other stereotypes in the following days and this I will speak in Spanish on my channel.
Many thanks for reading this blog.
Hugs for all

San José is Father's day in Spain

Hello embartisanknitters.
Today I want to explain about Saint Joseph, Father's Day

The festive calendar of Spain is strongly influenced by the Church. In Spain, Father's Day is celebrated on March 19 in honor of San José.

The Saint is also celebrated for all the men called Joseph, in addition to those who perform the same profession as the Saint, that of a carpenter , and It is festive in the Valencian community, there is a show of fireworks, ninots( they are dolls and decorative art figures) and delicious paellas and buñuelos of pumpkin.

This holiday is considered of great importance because it recognizes the contribution of parents to the family. It is a way to honor parents and recognize their role in raising and educating their children.

Traditionally, that day the family gathers at a meal and gifts are offered to the father.

Origin

The traditional story of San Jose in the Christian world, one that of Joseph being the chosen father for Jesus. The most probable reason is that in its origins the Christians only believed in some type of cult to the martyrs and it was not the case of San José.

At the beginning of the 4th century, the cult of St. Joseph among the Copts (Egyptians of the Christian faith) was beginning to appear, with its festivity appearing on the 20th of July of the Coptic calendar.

In the western world, appeared the first references to his cult in the year 1129, where there is a church dedicated to his name in Bologna (Italy).

The Carmelite fathers were the first to move their cult from the East to the West in a complete way and after its appearance in the Dominican calendar it was gaining more and more strength.

During the following years, great personalities that later became saints, in some of the cases, had a great devotion for Saint Joseph, which made his cult take more strength. The contribution of Jehan Charlier Gerson is significant, and in 1400 he composed an Office of the Betrothal of San José.

In the pontificate of Sixtus IV, St. Joseph was introduced into the Roman calendar, which is still relevant today, on the day of March 19.

This was fundamental and from that moment on it became a simple party, later going to a double party for Innocent VIII, a second class double party by Clement XI. Finally Pius IX appointed him patron of the Catholic Church.

Curiosities

The reason that this day also celebrates father's day is the character that is given to San José as a good father and protector. It is typical to represent San José as an older man and with a staff from which flowers are born at the end. This is due to the various legends that are told about the life of San José.
Los Pepes: The reason that people named José are also known as Pepe, is that, since he was not the biological father of Jesus, and in the various paintings, sculptures or readings in the scriptures about him,the initials PP were added after his name. (putative father or step father in English)
Well embartisanknitters I hope you like this.
In honour of my grandma Maria, she was born in Sagunto ( Valencia), and  Feliz día de padre ( Happy Father's Day)

The advantages of being bilingual

Hola / Hello
Today I want to explain to you ,why it is important to learn languages.
The English, Spanish and French courses are one of the most important economic investments we can make for our children in the future.
Who is looking for an English, Spanish or French course? People with a medium level of intelligence are those who care about learning English, French or Spanish, or at least that their children learn it. Today languages are Fashion and are necessary. Think for example: Politicians and people with a high level of intelligence take their children to study in private schools where time is not wasted, in those private schools they learn useful languages such as English, Spanish, French, even German. Nowadays, it is useless for someone to speak only English, nor does it help to say that 'I do not like languages' ... I speak five languages, for me to learn languages is not only being able to communicate (of course it is the most important thing) ) Learning languages goes beyond communication,it also helps to know the culture and history of that language.Understand and respect the grammar of each language. And never ever laugh, or criticize a person who tries to speak your language. Never demand that person speak your accent, remember that person is making a great effort to communicate with you, and think..if you try to speak the language of that person you will have the same accent. To all those people who demand or make fun of a foreigner who has his own accent. To all those people I tell them that the day they have a perfect accent of another language, then they can demand that foreigners have a good accent. This is up to you. Do you prefer to help or hinder  foreigners who wants to learn your language? You must think and it is proven the scientists analyzed the brain images of a group of volunteers, bilingual, non-bilingual but knowledgeable of two languages, and a third monolingual group, noting that the first two groups had the same degrees of myelination of the axons, that is, a greater integrity in the white matter of the brain, which provides greater efficiency in the transmission of information or knowledge. These results were not repeated in the group of people who spoke only one language.
So,what do you think about it ?
Next time ,I will make a video in Spanish on my YouTube channel ' Vlog de una Española en Irlanda 'about this.
Thanks for reading my blog.

Feminism

Hola/ Hello embartisanknitters.

Today is international women's day. Feminism is no longer what it was: the struggle was renewed, because women have already conquered many spaces and we have other weapons.

We are very far from those feminists of the 70's who fought for gender equality, demanding the possibility of accessing places that were forbidden to us. There is no doubt that we were conquering new weapons and gaining different positions -and if you are not so sure, just sit down for a while to chat with your grandmother and compare your life with hers .They are also far from the stereotypes: they do not burn bodices or go around undressing when they do not agree with something - despite the fact that certain extremist feminists do it to get the attention of the media - they wax, they are flirty, they love and they respect men and they care about the same things that most of us do.

I think that being a woman does not mean being a feminist. But I do see that feminism has always fought for equal rights between women and men, so that sexual difference does not become social inequality. When, not so long ago, women were excluded from the right to vote and public office, when they were denied access to education, it was easy to identify with feminist claims. Today it may be more strange. But when thinking about the inequalities that persist in society, we see a clear gender mark: women tend to have more informal jobs and worse payment; their tasks in the main as caring for their children, hinders their possibilities for personal development; Undervaluation makes them victims of different forms of violence. It is not difficult to see that despite the achievements, the sexual difference was consolidated as a social inequality that affects us all. Therefore, I believe that the best way to transform this reality is to defend feminist ideals.
we see a small analysis from my point of view as a European woman, among the top one thousand companies in Europe, only 4.4% have a woman in her maximum hierarchical position. If we think that the percentage of university graduates is more or less the same between both sexes ..., why is there such a gap? Clearly, certain gender stereotypes still predominate, although less than a few decades ago. The current challenge is to promote work-family reconciliation policies in the workplace, for both men and women - this is key! because if not, it would be deepening the purpose of equality-, in order to narrow the differences in opportunities,we need flexible schedules, the possibility of equal opportunity, etc. I also see that, for example, you know that I teach Spanish, crochet and knitting, and it is incredible to see, that there are many men interested in learning a language or learning crochet, there are also girls that are good at football, this is fantastic! .
My grandmother always told me that every word that ends in 'ism' is to be fanatic about something, I mean that extreme feminism is not good, nor is extreme machismo or chauvinism good. Yes, equality of opportunities for both sexes is good. And the day of the woman, the day of the child or the day that is ... it's not just one day, it's 365 days of the year.
It's just my opinion.

Connecting with your customers

Hola / Hello embartisanknitters , I hope everyone is save in the current climate .
Today I am going to talk about costumer relations .
When you put your product online it's not just about visual advertising you have to write a description as well .
It is very important to write a description, why ? Because it is the information that people look for when making a purchase decision. With just a click on this information, people can know the story you can tell about your products.
I like to use the product to know it better. For example, if I make baby blankets and sweaters, I need to research what is the best wool for the baby's skin.So I have security when a client asks me: What material is your product made of? orWhere do these materials come from? To show My tutorial videos on YouTube if you want subscribe on my YouTube channel this is my link   https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeJPmF3tGmK6YD-gDVsEAvg  .

OK My friends, but I really love it is the contact with my clients face to face.
I have few clients face to face, but I feel blessed to be with costumers with a beautiful personality. Why do I say this? Because it's an intimate relationship, after all, I'm working with the lady's body. Or sometimes I'm working with a sweater for her baby ..
I love the relations I have with my clients. We tell each other our  sorrows and our joys. It makes me very happy when a lady to ask me, how am I? after two for  a fitting.
There are dresses or sweaters that the clients wear and they don't look good and don't tell me why, and there are others that you put  the same dress on the lady and from the first moment she  looks perfect. There is something mysterious about this.

Here they also come, older ladies or women with a more difficult body, and yet that, there is no problem, I always listen to the madam, what she wants or what she needs. I think to myself,  "Esther I can do this with all my passion for this lady and she will  looks pretty and elegant.
Those embartisanknitters  who read my blog, I already wrote about elegance, but it is good to memorize that elegance is in the person. I see people on the street and I think, wow .. she/he'selegant !!, and believe me I do not pay attention to the clothes he /she wears. However, you see ladies with costumes of expensive and famous brands and, psss ... I'm sorry but no. And there are women, that as soon as you talk to them, you think, blimey ! This girl  or boy is not pretty but she  or he has something that appeals to you, his or  her way of looking or smiling. There are beautiful girls that leave you cold I mean that they aren't attractive even if they are pretty. The personality and elegance are seen even in how we walk.

Let's see, my education and my mentality is from the city, I am now in a town,
This is difficult in a town, but for me   , Discretion is very important. I can not go repeating the things I see and hear from my costumers come to my home .
I like to protect my clients, for me, the best gift is when they tell me: 'Hey Esther, your baby blanket, your crochet dress etc, was  a success ! . That is my true satisfaction, I love to  see people happy.
I hope you have liked my experience .
A hug from this Spanish who lives in Ireland.

Keep priviate

Hola/ Hello embartisanknitters , how are you doing ?

Today I've received an interesting email from Dakota USA  regarding a person who innocently explained an idea they had too friends who then cheated her and used her idea themselves.
She's very sad, I like to give support to people, so  to write this in my blog, I have asked her permission and she has told me that of course I can write my opinion in my humble blog.
It's my humble opinion and experience ,so
when you go to buy a house, a car, or you have a new relationship, or you  want to make a new project, etc... please keep quiet , why ?  Because 99% of the time our dreams are not realized, this is because of our tongue, yes my friends our tongue, by this I mean that when we want to do something and innocently we tell our families or friends be careful dear friends, because envy exists and is worse than voodoo.
The solution is to close your mouth, and act. Then everything will happen at the right place and at the right time.Never forget that most of your friends and family, want to see you do well, but never better than them. I hope this helps you .
Thanks for reading my blog and sending me your emails.

The new system of retirement now includes voluntary work.

Hello everybody, today I don't want to talk about crochet or knitting . Instead, I want to talk about  the new system of retirement and voluntary  work. I'm writing this because many people think the same as me .
I see now that in the work place companies offer work and social welfare offer you as some kind of auction, by this I mean you work for your unemployment pay. All the room is silent. And then, among the attendees, someone raises their hand. And says ... "ME". And then, as if it were an eruption, a chain of "me" starts, one by one, fighting for that free "work". And I add "work" in quotes because it should not be called that, but slavery.
I know writing this there could be consequences because here is like a  sect, but after living here for 5 years, I honestly do not care, do you know why? because I'm tired of sending CV, going to interviews and  I have heard so many stupid excuses from the University Hospital of Sligo or from the nursing home Nazareth ... I have more than 25 years experience as a pediatric nurse and midwife, and I have had my own company for 15 years, never in my life have I seen so much contempt and ignorance. In my 25 years of experience I am very well, and I am very strict with the washing of hands in a Hospital. In nursing home Nazareth de Sligo they sent me an email, they wrote me another name, I had to answer to them that this email was for me or for someone else, also in other places they tell me that they need a level 5, I have a level 7, so they tell me no, they also tell me not because my English has a Spanish accent, of course my accent is Spanish, I am Spanish, forgive you but that is discrimination, so if some people are from India , from Germany or France, or Czech Republic .. (sorry for my German or French friends, but when they speak in Spanish or English, the German accent or Frances we know where are from , but ...this is normal, our mother tong ... it's normal ! I always I respect that , this happens also to us the Spanish speakers  or  the other countries). I think  it  is unpresentable and discriminatory for a Company Director to say that he does not want you because your accent is Spanish, French or German. that's stupid !  .
Anyway , now I understand that it's not the problem if you have Spanish,French ,chines  accent... no, no ..this isn't a problem. This is a excuse for not hire people and yes , they want people to work free , well..they put they mask the word volunteer, it's more lovely.  the welfeare social workers tell you that it is good for your CV, and you will have a wonderful experience. Oh seriously ? , when I was young, I was a volunteer at the red cross in Barcelona beach  of life guard. My friends and  I , we risked our lives to save irresponsible bathers. I was there all day and the red cross gave me a sandwich and water. I have been in various volunteer places, giving cafes and food to the homeless, or I giving crochet blankets for babies , yes my friefriends I do it!!
This I have done from my heart, but apart from that I had my own work.
But now There are many people who need to work, have a salary and pay bills. Volunteering is fine, but it does not work if you have to pay bills, or if you want to pay for our children's university career. The other day I read in the newspaper that a store in Sligo wants a four-hour shop every Saturday, and that the university hospital in Sligo needs volunteers, why do not they hire and pay people? and those people from social welfare that make it spread that you are volunteering, why the social welfare do not work as volunteers, I mean free? because they need a salary, right? Everyone understand it , and it's just ,but  because the rest of citizens also need to work and a salary. They need to  give a job and salary, and then if people want to  be volunteer ... great!
Now about the retirement until 75 years old . Who's the 'clever 'who thought of this stupid idea?
Those smart heads have thought of a builder with 75 years old he can climb in a scaffolding? or a waiter working 12 hours in a bar? Why do not they think that these people retire early to open the path  for the new generation? . Honestly, this is crazy. !!
Open doors, give opportunities to our young people and let older people retire early and enjoy life.

Well friends, I hope your opinions, I'm sure there will be people who hate me for saying this, but I'm a woman who does not like injustices, I'm supportive with those who need me, but I do not like anyone to abuse the good hearts of people . I think it's unfair. So volunteer, but also have our work and our decent salary to be able to live. Let rest and enjoy life our older people because they deserve it.
And they also deserve our lovely young people to work and have them opportunities.
Thank you so much.
Esther.

Knit a St.Valentine's heart

Hola / Hi embartisanknitters, how are you?
reading emails, I have found four emails from one Germany, two from the USA and one from France, these lovely ladies, have asked me how they can make heart in knitting to decorate their home ,. Okay, no problem girls!!
The first thing ,I want to thank everyone  for  your questions and suggestions.
Well to make a heart knitting for decorates your house, it's very easy ,so take your needles number 5 or 6( remember that it's European size), about the wool choose the colours that you prefer.
Cast on with 3 stitches, knit two rows in knit stitch , now from row 3 to 5 row, you increase one stitch at the beginning and one stitch in the end , so ,At the end of round 5, you will have 6 stitches on your needle.

cast on your own needle another 3 stitches and repeat the 2nd and 3rd steps.

Take off  the part just knit from your needle and transfer it to the other needle, so that the first two parts of the heart remain together.
Now , knit three rows with knit stitch .knit all stitches in knit stitch by decreasing 1 stitch in each round. To do this, knit two stitches together at the beginning of the row.

Repeat this until you have one stitch on your needle.

Well beautiful friends, here we have our heart, you can make bigger or smaller, you can make a cushion, to Box, etc, I would like to know how far your imagination goes. Happy weekend to all.xx

Sligo

Hello embartisanknitters  , how are you doing today?
Today is a sunny day but very chilly.
Something caught my attention today, that some people from Australia, and USA  asked me about Sligo,Ireland.
It's this..When I say the name Sligo or its provincial towns, they frown and almost speak in a low voice, and hint that it is an insignificant and strange place, as if it were a different country within Ireland itself, such a remote and uninteresting place that is not worth even visiting.

Honestly, I am from Barcelona and I am a very urban woman, I have visited rural places in Spain and in other European countries, rural places are fine, but my stay has always been two or three days and I leave. So by my own admission,I prefer Dublin, but with my current situation this can not be. Returning to Sligo it is intimately linked to the figure of W.B. Yeats (famous Irish poet and Nobel Prize winner for Literature), who spent most of his childhood and youth here and, as he himself admitted, this landscape was the one that most influenced his life and his writing. The Irish nation, in its honor, has given this geographical area the name of 'Yeats Land'.
For me ( ( and the majority of the foreign people who know Sligo )
Sligo is not a city, it is a big town that maintains the air of a village: with small buildings, little traffic and  provincial environment; Sligo it's a warm place, with friendly  and lovely people and cozy corners like the walk on the sides of the Garavogue river.
The mountain Ben Bulben that emerges from the earth abruptly like the fin of a shark in the sea.
I know that they speak two languages ( Gaelic and English ) the same in Barcelona,we speak Spanish and Catalan)+but I have been told that some northern English accents are difficult to understand, but I have had some difficulty here, with a few people's pronunciation and how some people project their words,I mean, some people mumble or speak very fast and some words get lost.
The proof is that I understand 100% people from Dublin, Galway from England and Australians, and why some people here are difficult to understand? . I laugh a lot when the people of Sligo tell me that my English has a Spanish accent, of course I have a Spanish accent because I am Spanish, just as they have the accent of Sligo. this is ridiculous and laughable.

another thing that catches my attention here is when I worked in Sligo, it works but not with stress, there is a good respect, and you can take your time on your decisions, and I was happy with them.
Take your time in Barcelona? LOL . In Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, they do not allow you to take your time, it's all: Now, hurry , it's urgent!
There is a Sligo site that I love the quiet beach of Rosses Point. but how is it possible that here is the Atlantic ocean and they have so little variety of fish to sell? . In Galicia or the Canary Islands (Spain) they also have this wonderful atlantic ocean, but they enjoy the wonderful fish and seafood that the Atlantic gives. Here in Sligo, ladies and gentlemen, people eat very little fish.
Another place to visit in Sligo and it's very beautiful is the ruins of medieval castles and abbeys and of course ..OMG I am in love with The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception On Temple Street in Sligo, is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Elphin. This cathedral was built in Norman style, and it is the only Norman styled cathedral in Ireland.

You also need to know that four centuries ago many sailors of the Spanish Armada invincible sought refuge on the Scottish and Irish coasts and ended up mixing and settling their roots in this country.

another thing that I recommend to you  if it does not rain, LOL  is to make bike routes, hiking ... because the environment is more enjoyed the truth, it is beautiful. Yes, all green.
Thanks to everyone for reading my blog. a hug . Esther embartisanknitting & crochet. You can read this in Spanish in my other blog estherenirlanda.blogspot.com

CURVY WOMEN

Hello embartisanknitters, how are you? . I've been feverish for a week, but the most important thing is that I'm here and I'm still reading your emails. Today I am going to talk  about curvy women, there are many of you who tell me that you feel frustrated when you want to buy clothes or knit something.
In life, as in fashion and in beauty, everything is a matter of "attitude". Not because you  are curvy, slender ... we are going to dress badly, or we will feel ugly or we will not find the ideal garments to complement each of our looks, everything depends on the information and knowledge we have about ourselves and our body.OK?

Ladies, I want you to pay attention to this question:
Is there style and elegance in a curvy woman?

Of course, yes, there are women who are curvy and their have an exquisite  to choose each garment. Their outfits are loaded with avant-garde, style and glamour.

I understand that each body is a world, but focus on what you like , please.
The classic error is that we long for the body that we don't have and we keep looking for dressing as we would like to see ourselves, this is the worst thing we can do. Then it is important that you focus on what you love about your body and enjoy it. This will make you feel more confident, same that you are going to reflect and if you hide what strikes you from your body emphasizing what you like you will see yourself much better.

Discover what figure you have. You can not dress like you're skinny, no way. You have to identify your form so you can do things correctly. If you have a big bust you have to look for blouses or dresses that let you see your collarbone so that you look thinner, do not abuse at the neckline because then you look bigger.

If you have a big Heep's , look for straight trousers, to hide your butt and lengthen your legs.

If you have a skinny leg and a little hip then wear short dresses (NO MINI) and have a belt to frame your waist and look thinner.

start with the clothes you wear; neither too tight nor too loose.

You can't wear a tunic that, according to you, hides everything you do not like about your body. The effect is the opposite, you see yourself with more volume instead of hiding it. When you use something very stuck then neither is favorable, so it is important that you focus on fabrics that hormen and put everything in place without overflowing anything.
About the colour, I understand that you don't like to wear black and that you want to look more colorful, but you have to be very aware that color increases kilos if it is not well used. If you wear blue pants with a yellow jacket you'll see bigger than you really are. It combines bright colors with neutral tones. Find that the most colorful garment is in the part of your body less voluminous or in which you want to emphasize so that the contrast with the neutral gives you, visually, a thinning effect.

If you like very much the clothes with print it is good that you use it. Do not look for those that are very colorful, nor very big. BEWARE OF !, when I went to the shops to see clothes to dress someone of large sizes I came across clothes that look like the tunic of Homer Simpson when he was obese, ultra big and ultra flowered. Run for the other side and look for some points, flowers or graphics, preferably only two tones. If it's a camisole, it's good that it's wide but below it, put something more tight on the body.

Well dear embartisanknitters, I wish that all curvy women know how to take advantage of their body, and be divine, feel good and comfortable. And so you need to know that you are not alone. It's just I want to explain to you that no matter what size we use, the important thing is to know how to dress well .. ;)
I wish you all a happy weekend ,and I hope my fever is gone soon to make new tutorial videos on my YouTube channel.
Thanks for reading my blog.

How to be Spanish ??

Hello embartisanknitters, how are you? After reading the satirical criticism, ridicule and lies of Mr. Chris Haslam of the prestigious newspaper The times about my country Spain, ' How to be Spanish .
As a Spaniard, I'm not going to shut up, and I think what I'm going to write is normal for me to write the false cliches that this man and some foreigners think about Spain and the Spaniards.
Spain has 17 autonomous communities are: Andalusia, Aragon, Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Community of Madrid, Comunidad Foral de Navarra, Comunidad Valenciana, Extremadura, Galicia, Basque Country, Principality of Asturias, Region of Murcia and La Rioja. Castilian or Spanish is the language spoken by the majority of Spaniards, although not all do so as a mother tongue. In fact, there are also other languages of great regional importance: mainly Catalan, Galician, and Euskera. Other languages are the Aranese spoken in the Aran Valley, in Catalonia, the Aragonese and the Asturleones or Bable. This gentleman says that to be Spanish you have to be badly spoken, unpunctual, know how to differentiate pinchos and tapas, expose many hours to the sun, shout, etc. This man has no idea how to be a Spanish. in the first place, it depends where you go to Spain, people are different, this means that each autonomous community has a personal character, there are communities in Spain that have more Greco-Roman culture, other Phoenicians, there are other communities that have more pronounced Celtic culture, did you know that in Galicia and Asturias they played with bagpipes? . so not all Spaniards are equal. I do not like to hear that Spaniards are unpunctual, because I am very punctual (this was taught to me by my father), many Spaniards like to say 'thank you' and 'please' (we are not as repetitive as English speakers, but yes We do it, Mr. Haslam says that to be Spanish and call the waiter you have to say 'oye or oiga', this is not true, an educated Spaniard will tell the waiter 'when you can.'
Mr. Haslam also says that you have to kiss and hug everyone in Spain, seriously ?? hahaha ... giving two kisses is to your family and your intimate friends. A old lady or businessman ..they don't tolerate kisses if they don't know you .
He says we scream? Well when there is English football ..they scream like crazy. This is about criticizing the people of a country ... you have to be careful with this, there are people who are extremely ignorant and critical for criticizing, nobody is perfect, I am going to tell you a couple of anecdotes that have happened to me here in Ireland, one was that I went to a hairdresser and she made an e Stupid comment: 'Esther, you are Spanish, but your skin is very white, but your eyes are typical Spanish browns, and surely if you go back to Portugal-Spain, your skin gets dark'. This woman proved to be an ignorant ass. This woman does not know that there are Spaniards dark, blond, ginger hair , with green eyes, blue and brown, this ignorant woman doesn't know that in my country in summer with 40 °, the Spaniards, French or Nordic skin becomes darker. In the winter the snow exist too in my country. Remember ththat Pyrenees separated Spain and France.
Oh hairdresser  Spain is a country ,Portugal is other country .
Another anecdote that happened to me here in Ireland is that I was looking for a house to rent. The lady asked me where I was from. I told her that I am Spanish, this poor woman, she wanted to be funny, and she told me: 'in this house you can dance flamenco the times you want'. I replied to her 'I'm sorry, I do not like flamenco'. She did not know what to do or what to say to me because she made a fool of herself. This, dear friends, you have to be careful. Not all Spaniards like bullfighting or flamenco, for example I hate flamenco and bullfights. Since Franco died, the mentality of the Spaniards has changed. okay ? . other than mr. Haslam made me laugh is about 'the siesta', he says that all Spaniards have a nap between 3h / 4 h, hahaha ... Mr. Chris Haslam ,' la siesta ' is between 30 minutes to 45 minutes. and in the big cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia ... not everyone takes a nap, can you imagine Madrid or Barcelona paralyzed 3 or 4 hours, according to this journalist? that he says in a town, because it could be that yes, but in a city like my Barcelona? .Nope! . Mr. Haslam, if you want to pass yourself off as a Spanish and not look like a guiri in my country, do the following: Treat the waiters with education and respect, we have to think that while we are on vacation, they sacrifice their vacations to serve us well. Paella, tapas or whatever we want. If you want to be a Spanish drinker but without getting drunk, I mean enjoy drinking and eating in a  company with a good friends or family. Being a drunk is not well seen in Spain. Never enter a bar or restaurant in a swimsuit (this is a sign of bad manners in Spain).
In Spanish we use tu ó usted ,both Mean's  You in English, but in my country by careful with that. We used Tu( you) to our family or our relationship or friends. Usted ( you) we used authority people ( police,Judge,priest...) old people, or people who never we met . ( this is a rule very important in Spain about good educate )
Try to learn some basic words in Spanish, ok English is a universal language, but not all Spanish people know English, and some do not want to speak English because they know that you are in Spain and Spanish is spoken. Do you know why many Spaniards who know how to speak English refuse to talk about it? . because there has been a lot of talking English speaking that says that when we speak our accent is Spanish.
Of course our accent is Spanish !! and if that  bumpkin country vspeaks Spanish ... his / her accent will be French or English or the corresponding country. You don't know that as much as you know other languages, the maternal tong always stands out? . I know five languages, but my Spanish accent is mine, even if you try to speak Spanish I will also know where you are from because of your accent. This is normal !! Don't laugh about someone who trying talk your, mine language.Don't be ignorant, please!
So, now I want to ask Spanish people their thoughts about foreign tourists when they visit Spain. From moment Mr Haslam his profile is locked.
All this is a example that We should never criticize other countries.. All countries are beautiful and special for visit and respect.
Hugs to all.

How to block a crochet or knitted garment

Hello embartisanknitters, how are you ?. After reading your questions. Today I will explain how to block a crochet or knitted garment. It's easy to do, but block your crochet pieces carefully.
Blocking the fabric is a method of giving it the shape we want and of obtaining the exact, correct size of what we weave, so as not to make mistakes with the measurements. It also provides definition to the points: a flat and uniform look, like fresh from a machine. There are several methods, depending on the quality of the yarn we use: submerging the piece in water, applying steam, or spraying water with an aerosol (this is the most recommended for extremely delicate fibers). To not complicate and be sure that we can apply it to any type of material, I recommend that you practice the steam method (because there will be qualities that can not get wet, etc., so I always do the same, and it works).
 WHAT DO YOU NEED?
A normal steam iron, pins and one if you do not have a grid,  put a thick towel on a flat surface and there you can work. You will need a straight line to guide you, that's why any squared surface is good, but if not, you can use the mattress. Its edges form a perfect 90º angle, so it serves as a rule.

HOW IS IT DONE? Once you put the large towel but folded, (so that we have a padded surface), where you can nail the pins, put the piece and give the shape you want, stretching it and, for example, if it is a square, taking care of that the sides are the same size. If for example it is a fabric that the edge forms peaks, leaves, etc., that each thing remains in the place you want before putting the pins. Now, you are going to heat the iron until steam, and you will put it about 4-5 cm away from the fabric. You can not iron it, you can never never touch the fabric with the iron. Remember, it is only to apply steam at a distance ... When making a first pass through all the fabric, you will go (being careful not to burn yourself), pressing with your hand on, little by little, trying to crush it. And then you give it another steam pass more. When the piece is big, I do the process on both sides. At the end, I open the window and leave the piece (still fixed with pins), even all night. (It is NOT necessary, but if you have time, much better!Once the steam is applied, we can repeat the process on the reverse side:

The result is spectacular (especially, it will make a big difference in the lace stitches) But even in the knit stitch, but each stitch takes a definite, uniform, even shape ... say goodbye to bulges, reliefs and strange things And very important: the smooth stitch or jersey will NOT fold or roll anymore!
I hope you liked this. For more questions, you can email me at embartisanknitting@yahoo.com or in my page embartisanknitting & crochet of Facebook.
Hugs to all.

The benefits of crochet

Crochet is beneficial.
Hello everyone, today I am going to talk about the benefits of crochet. As you know, I am a midwife without a job. I am a very active and very creative woman, for me it was hard to send CV, interviews and ...they told me : no, no and no. Finally I decided to do what my grandmother and my aunt taught me when I was a litle girl the art of crochet and knit. Although at the moment I do not earn any money, making videos on YouTube and writing in this blog makes me happy, I love to teach , all this gives me motivated. Anyway, I will explain some benefits of crochet. okay ? ,sooo there they go !!:

- improves our self-esteem: seeing that you are able to create great things with your own little hands makes your self-esteem rise considerably and, with improved self-esteem everything else is seen with another perspective ... do not you think?

- Increase concentration level: obviously when we are knitting with crochet we have to be concentrated so as not to make mistakes, count stitches, etc ...

- relaxes: most of the time it helps to relax ... I have been surprised many times that the day I have the highest tension or some anxiety I have much more desire to take the hook. What, when the work doesn't go well and you have to undo it several times very relaxing it is not LOL ,but it helps to relax me most of the time.

- benefits of social ties: when one is addicted to an activity, in this case crochet, look for other people who share the same hobby, either in their community or on the internet ... in fact on facebook you will find many groups where people from all parts of the planet share their love of crochet.

- helps to put the thoughts in order in our head: I do not know if it has happened to you, to me yes, but when I'm knitting with crochet I get good ideas in my head that had not occurred to me in other circumstances ... It makes sense because by relaxing and being focused your head works better and you are more open to ideas and positive and orderly thoughts.

- it elevates us and makes us aware of our creative part: at the beginning many say uffff I am not able to do that ... but then with the passage of time I have been surprised to see people who even make their own creations without following not even a pattern.

- is good for motor problems: yes, be careful with the postures to avoid back problems ok? but it is very good especially for the motricity of the hands and fingers. Well my friends, Thank you for reading my blog, I invite you to visit my youtube channel ( you can subscribe is free, comment and share) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeJPmF3tGmK6YD-gDVsEAvg

El jersey de mi perro

Hola embartisanknitters

Simple puff stitch in crochet

Elegany

Hello embartisanknitters, how are you doing? .
I am here reading your emails. There is a question from the United States, from my country Spain, from Germany, from Belgium and from Sweden, these people ask me the same question, what is it elegant for me? Well, I'll gladly replay .
For me to be elegant is, above all, be polite, have style, ways. Not only wearing, but in your way of behaving. You can have the greatest fortune but if don't have education and culture ... If you don't know how to be grateful, give way, ask someone how they are when you know they are sad or sick, respect people even if it is opposite to you. ( always if they respect to me)That seems fundamental to me to be elegant.
You don't have to be superficial. But in life circumstances or depends or who are with you in depends moments, you have to be Frivolous, why? Sometimes you have to be repeating it depends on people, because frivolity is part of intelligence, to help you in some people who you fund in your live. And do not dramatize for it. And when you are with good people, you have to be deep, and sensitive with them.
If you help someone .. Give what you can without airing it, In my country Spain there is a phrase  that says " Lo que das con tu mano derecha que no se entere  la mano izquierda"which means : what you give with your right hand that does not know the left hand. I mean don't be a braggart , if you help someone help from your heart and be discreet. You have to be a good person but not be stupid. Never hurt anyone consciously.  if they have hurt me.    ...Before I kept quiet and did not do anything, now if they attack me, I'll answer. Well my  friends, I hope you like my opinion, so... there goes my question:
What's your definition of elegant?
Thanks for send me your email.

when someone wants to break your illusions

Hello to everyone.

I'm sorry, but today I'm not going to talk about patterns or tutorials.

Today I received an email from a follower, she is Spanish like me.

Akways I  tried to read all the emails that you send me (although I lack time, but  I read them).

This follower from Málaga has touched my heart and I feel very identified and I'm sure you too.

The issue is that when you have a dream, an illusion or a project, there are people around you who do not support you or laugh at you and criticize you, I tell you because it has happens to me, I have always fought alone, and when I like something I put all my passion for it, and although many times some acquaintances, relatives or couples have thrown me stones because yes and why not, and a thousand times they have turned off my illusions, I keep going because that's the way it should be . I tell you that no matter how much you say or do against us, do not leave it, open your eyes and connect with ourselves (this goes for men and women) from within. Let everything you dream or desire flow, only then we will be happy and the envious or illusion killers will ever be extinguished that candle of evil and we will grow as useful people for another human being who needs us.

Surprise yourself by doing everything you want and everything will go as you want, because you do it with kindness and love, and that kind of people just expect to live their own ordeal ... be a bad and negative people for everyone who I approached you. We must get away from the people who struggle against our dreams and illusions. Because all those who destroy the illusions of people almost always appear to be very "good" people, people who even have a lot of "social intelligence", but beware, you are facing a person who only watches over himself, there is nothing more dangerous and harmful to our lives that these people ...

When you are with someone like that, you can notice it because these people are never happy, they are always dissatisfied with everything, they are always wanting a thousand things but they do not do anything to achieve it, they live on others. My experience? example, they criticize me that if I make tutorial videos it's because I'm an egocentric, if I do not make any video it's because I'm lazy , If I pay half of the purchases, it is not enough or they tell you that I do not pay anything, if you spend more than normal ... you are a wasteful one, if you do not spend ... you are a stingy one, if you make a gift ... they could be say that their grandfather would not buy that, if you give  money ... is not enough ... Do you want more examples?

Well, there they go:

They are always telling you that what they do is "for your own good", that their intentions are good. You do not have to look far away, usually These people can become your own family, your own friend, partner, etc. They are people who are never happy because they wake up displeased, bored, they only look for the money, social media ..the pleasure of being well, they like the good life but they do not like to work, they live from others, waiting to see what they receive in exchange for their "positive comments". If they enjoy some time, their joys last a breath because they are never satisfied with what they have or receive They always believe they deserve more. They envy anyone who has a little more than themselves, they live life through others, hoping to see an opportunity to take advantage of their good relationship with others. They criticize all about you did ,They always see the negative in others. Everything that can be done will always be bad because they would know how to do it better (paradoxically they do not do anything, they live on the people close to them). They take credit for your successes. If something goes well for you, if you enjoy something, if something is achieved by your effort and work ... you will find a way to manipulate the situation to say that it is thanks to him or her. So, they try to convey that you owe them something. They tell you that your dreams and illusions are not realistic, that it is impossible for you to see them fulfilled. They will always tell you because they can not bear to see the happiness of others ... They send messages of discouragement. When they speak to you, they are always bored, and with an arrogant voice they point you with your index finger saying "be realistic", "that can not be "," That nobody has ever done it "," are you crazy? "," That is impossible "and" you will never achieve it ".
So ,my lovely friends...I understand you, because this is my battle every day.
Be happy ,and if you want write some comments, you are welcome.
Hugs to all.

NEWBORN EARFLAP HAT – CROCHET

NEWBORN EARFLAP HAT – CROCHET

Happy new year to all my bloggers!!

I'm really happy to write a new entry to explain to you how to make an earnest hat for a newborn.
People who know me knows that my real profession is midwife and pediatric nurse so they knows that I have passion for those little princess and princesses.

So… Do you want to make one for a special new little baby ?
Here’s how:
Materials
Super Bulky weight yarn – Normally I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick
Size 6  Crochet Hook
This hat is very small as it is intended for a brand new baby. If your hat is a just bit too small, you may want to try a larger hook.
This pattern uses European crochet terms.
st = stitch
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
hdc = half double crochet
hdc dec = half double crochet decrease.

Pattern

Ch 4, join with slip stitch to form loop.
Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as first st), 11 hdc in loop, sl st in second ch to join. (12 sts)
Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st of previous round, sl st to join. (24 sts)
Round 3: Ch 2, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, *hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, repeat from * 6 times, sl st to join. (32 sts)
Rounds 4-11: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, sl st to join. Finish off. Weave in ends.
If you want to add braids and tassels, cut 3 pieces of yarn about two feet long. Pull yarn through earflaps so that half the length is on one side of the middle stitch of the last row and half the length is on the other side. (The yarn loops around the post of the middle stitch.)
Braid the 6 strands of yarn, finish with a knot, and cut leaving about an inch-long tail.
hope that’s all clear. Please, let me know if you have any questions about the pattern in this blog or in my page : https://www.facebook.com/embartisanknittingandcrochet/
